Chanel introduces Gabrielle, its first major handbag line since The Boy bag

One version of the Gabrielle bag for us to dream about.

Best get that Pinterest board/savings account ready because Chanel has a major new collection of handbags (its first since the arrival of The Boy) with the Gabrielle bag.

Priced at around $5050 to $5950 they’re the kind of bag that you need to justify as an “investment purchase.”

And if you’re an eagle-eyed fashion watcher you’ll note that at fashion month it was swinging off the arms of celebrities and the fashion set.

The emphasis here is on the swinging, for the Gabrielle, which comes in several iterations including a hobo, a backpack and a tote, is made for women who have places to be and people to see. The kind of woman who isn’t afraid to voice her opinion, never forgets a friend’s birthday and is awfully good in a crisis.

aking inspiration from Gabrielle Chanel, before she remade herself as Coco, the bag is decided to be both functional and chic and can be worn however you like – crossbody, on the shoulder, or both by playing with the straps.

The campaign for the bag, which debuted at the French luxury house’s 2017 spring/summer ready-to-wear show, features the likes of excessively cool types like Pharrell Williams (who is, incidentally, the first man to appear in a handbag campaign for Chanel), Cara Delevingne, Caroline de Maigret and Kristen Stewart. The four will star in an ad campaign to debut on April 3.

Now if only we could get the Duchess of Cambridge to wear one for her next Parisian jaunt?

The bags are available in boutiques now.

Chanel ambassador Kristen Stewart wore a Gabrielle bag to a pre-Oscars event.

French model Caroline de Maigret has been spotted with the Gabrielle bag.
