Just because the dress code says “cocktail” doesn’t mean you have to wear a dress.
From the very first moment you see Laura Harrier, actress/model/very friendly person, you know she has *it*. *It* being that nameless quality that makes you want to know every. little. thing. that person is doing, seeing, wearing—everything. As the star of next year’s new Spider-Man: Homecoming film, Harrier is about to blow up in a big way.
We were lucky enough to convince her to let us dress her up in our take on party dressing—aka pants. Because we’re prone to letting our legs get bone-dry and fuzzy (it’s winter, okay?!) we’ll take any opportunity to skip skirts, tights, and dresses in favor of warm and cozy trousers. And with this many fun options out there, can you blame us?

“I’ve been shooting Spider-Man: Homecoming for the past few months. We wrapped in October and it was a process that spanned most of the year, from my initial audition to finishing up now. I’m playing the love interest of Peter Parker. We shot in Atlanta and a little bit in New York, and it was a crazy experience being on a giant set like that, which is completely different from what I’ve worked on before, but it was really fun!”
What’s in her party clutch:
“I always have lip balm, because my lips are always so dry around now, I love Glossier’s Balm Dotcom. I have rotating lipsticks, an awesome Tom Ford one, Sephora actually makes this amazing red that stays on all night, which is the best for going out, so you don’t have to think about it. But I usually just take a little bag with ID, credit cards obviously, some gum, whatever lipstick I’m wearing, and that’s about it. Pretty simple. And my phone!”
“Yeah, I love a suit on a woman, I think it’s really cool. And I’m always in pants, I’m not really a very ‘dressed’ girl. I’m actually wearing a suit to a Dior event soon that I’m really excited about. I loved the styling of this shoot.”
“I love sparkles and sequins and being girly in a way, but I’m also very New York and I wear a lot of black. This was the perfect melding of the things I like together in one outfit.”
“When I’m out, I love a gin and tonic, which is such an old-man drink but that’s usually what I order at a bar. And then this time of year, I love bubbles and having champagne and all that kind of stuff, which is [so festive].
“When I’m getting ready I think [listening to] Rihanna always does the trick. At the moment I’m also obsessed with ‘Fade’ [by Kanye West], I listen to that one while getting ready.”
How she would get ready for a party with just five minutes:
“I would brush my teeth, put on a bright lip and no other makeup, and probably just wear black jeans and a cute top, with these new Dries Van Noten boots I just got that I’m obsessed with. They’re these beautiful burgundy booties, I’ve been wearing them with everything and it makes everything cooler.”
“I’m excited for the holidays to go home and see my family, because I’ve been working so nonstop that I haven’t really gotten to spend much time with them. I’m seeing them for Thanksgiving, and then over Christmas I’m taking a trip to Bali, which is a place I’ve never been before. I’m not being around for Christmas for the first time ever, so it might be weird but I’m also really excited—it will be a totally new experience! I love this time of year.”
